Ruddy cheeks, happy smiles and new knowledge are keywords that describe a lesson in the open air, as witnessed by students, teachers and guests at the opening ceremony to celebrate the release of the new book English in the Forest issued by JSC “Latvijas valsts meži”.
The event was held at Zaķumuiža Elementary School of Ropaži Municipality. “Learning in the open air provides unforgettable emotions,” says Ināra Kleinberga, a teacher at Zaķumuiža Elementary School and an active participant in the environmental education programme Learning about Forest, sharing her practical experience. Antons Cibuļskis, Chairman of Ropaži Municipality Council, expressed his support for the hardworking teachers, school principal Albīne Prizeva and students at Zaķumuiža. Imants Vasmanis, a representative of the State Centre for Curriculum Development, made a speech in which he welcomed the success of cooperation between the Ministry of Education and Science and JSC “Latvijas valsts meži”, emphasizing the importance of environmental education programmes in teaching the new generation.
The venue for holding this event was not selected by accident. Zaķumuiža Elementary School is one of nine Latvia’s schools, which have been given the title of Mammadaba embassy this year for participating in the environmental education programme Learning about Forest and actively demonstrating their knowledge, skills and love of the forest, forest values and the environment.
