Heavily damaged by the storm "KLAUS"

The first estimations in France are around 40 M m3, mainly pine and poplar, which is quite disastrous. We are waiting for details from our members who are in the region (we have a phone conference tonight). It seems that this wood would be mainly destinated to packaging industry, paper industry and wood energy. We are now working on a crisis action plan in order to set up specific measures for the forests in South West of France.

Due to the extremely difficult economic situation, we are, of course, very worried about the lack of markets for this wood, mainly for pines. We think it will be quite difficult to sell this wood in France since the situation of the packaging and paper industry is quite pessimistic. Therefore, the solution would be to increase our exports.

I allow myself to contact you in order to ask you if you have any relevant information to forward us concerning the wood market opportunities in your own country mainly pines products markets. Of course we know that the forest and wood sector must also be affected in your country by the economic crisis but we do not know each country situation with details so that some specific information coming from your countries would be very usefull for us in order to knnow if pines exports opportunies could be considered.

We thank you very much in advance for the information and advice that you will give us
