MORE THAN 600 VOLUNTEER HELPERS „POLISH THE LATVIAN GEMS”

The largest spring joint work voluntary cleaning campaign was organized on 10 May this year by companies  SIA Latvija Statoil, AS Latvijas Valsts meži and the TV broadcast Vides fakti  [Environmental Facts]. The campaign attracted 600 volunteers cleaning and trimming up 4 different sites of cultural and historical importance and nature sites in Zemgale, Kurzeme and Vidzeme.

In Gārsene of Jēkabpils district, Zemgale region, they set up some new nature trails at  Gārsene castle park, tended the flattering elm, one of the Latvia’s secular trees, built a new bridge over  Dienvidsusēja river and scavenged the recreation places.

 

In Ziemeļkurzeme, at 23 km distance from Ventspils, they worked in the territoryof Užava nature reserve removing waste from the sea coast. In Dienvidkurzeme, Liepāja district the existing natural trails were cleaned up and some new ones added, as well as the vault of baron fon Korf in Aizvīķi forest park was made spruce again.  

 

Last but not least, the Limbaži district waterbody „Karogi”, a Vidzeme gem rich in caverns will be able to meet the spring season with a stately pride for the volunteers have tidied up its banks and improved the tourist recreation spots setting up wooden picnic tables and benches.

 

„Peoples’ enthusiasm to help with cleaning and tidying up environment in their immediate neighbourhood within the activities of the Month of Cleanliness is growing with every year. That proves that responsibility for the native country and its status is growing among the general public. The challenge of our company is to set a good example. That means at least a small step forward,” says Sandis Šteins, acting managing director of SIA Latvija Statoil. „Already in a few years time, we will be able to produce a map with all sites where we have done the cleaning-up work just to make Latviaa better place.”

 

The tradition of getting involved in the tidying-up activities of the Month of Cleanliness with all their families was started by the employees of the company the last year. This year, the company AS Latvijas Valsts Meži  has joined the incentive of Latvija Statoil.
