From 28 to 30 August the winners of the Forest Competition have been finding out about the forest by visiting the biggest forest museum in Finland – the ”Lusto”.
In the museum, the teachers and the schoolchildren have familiarized themselves with the manifold role of the forest in the life of humans, starting with the seeds and up to the finished products – the latest achievements in the woodworking industry. The expositions of the museum were devoted not only to the economic, but also to the ecological and social role of the forest. There, the visitors could observe as well as hear and feel, touch and smell and otherwise learn about the forest.
Also in the upcoming study year 2007/2008 the Forest Competition shall be announced, in which the first prize shall be the educational tour to the Schools of Nature in Norway.
The ”Forest Competition” is a new tradition, which the JSC „Latvijas valsts meži” has founded in 2006 under the auspices of the environmental education program ”Know the forest” (Izzini mežu) with the purpose to facilitate the teachers’ and the schoolchildren’s comprehension of the forest and the forest industry.
