12.1 kg Heavy Carp Caught In Tērvete

Large fishes are caught in the Gulbji Reservoir of Tērvete, which is managed by the company "Latvijas valsts meži". Thus on 15 May at 12.30 o'clock the fisherman Dagnis Balodis using a wobbler caught a 71 cm long and 12,1 kg heavy carp by the dam.

The carp was caught in a very interesting way – while the wobbler was floating in the water, the fish did not bite the hook, but it was hooked up from outside. The fight between the fisherman and the fish continued for almost half an hour, which turned into an exciting show for the big number of people who were enjoying the sunny weather at the lake on that Sunday.

 

The place where the carp was caught, the Reservoir of Tērvete or Gulbji, which is located within the territory of the Tērvete Nature Park, is teeming of fish, and fishermen often catch large amounts of pikes and carps there. Every year the manager of the reservoir the company "Latvijas valsts meži" increase the amount of fish, as a result of which during the period from 2000 to 2004 the lake was stocked with 1700 kg of two-year-old carps and 200 thousands larvae of pikes.

 

The lake, the territory of which is protected, has several jetties and a boathouse. From summer 2005 all the visitors of the lake are offered to use campsites, 4 recreation houses, as well as sports grounds and shelters for complete recreation and relaxation in nature.
