The Storm Does Not Spare the Popular Likverteni Heath Forest Near Bauska

The strong storm, which caused significant damage in the vicinity of Bauska on the afternoon of 11 July, also affected a forest area managed by JSC “Latvia's State Forests” (LVM) and the Likverteni Heath Forest, a popular recreation spot among both guests and residents. While the damage caused by the fallen and broken trees to the territory of the state forests is still being assessed, operative work has been started to clear the forest roads of the fallen trees.

“The storm damaged forests of Latvia's State Forests and other owners. Unfortunately, damages were also caused to a beloved walking place in the vicinity of Bauska – the Likverteni Heath Forest. Today, LVM employees have started clearing the roads of the Likverteni Heath Forest from fallen trees, to ensure that people can get home. LVM employees promptly communicate and inform residents about the progress of the work,” says Jānis Belickis, Head of Forest Management Planning in the LVM Vidusdaugava Region.

The rest of the forest clean-up works are planned after assessing the damage caused by the storm by carrying out random fellings. It is expected to complete the cleaning work of the Likverteni Heath Forest as soon as possible, ensuring safe accessibility of the favourite resting place for visitors. Currently, LVM is asking visitors not to go to Likverteni.
