The task of shielding barriers is to prevent vehicles from accidentally slipping into a water body and to warn of possible risks associated with an open body of water. Usually, shielding barriers are installed at water intake points on the sides of forest roads. They are equipped with reflectors to improve traffic safety at night.
Shielding barriers of various structures were installed on the sides of roads built in the past, but they were not sufficiently treated with wood protection products. Therefore, the life of these barriers was not long.
“To improve the service life of the barriers, LVM developed uniform standard wooden shielding barriers and signal barriers on LVM forest roads, which not only visually fit into the forest landscape but also ensure longer service life. The wooden parts are impregnated under pressure, which ensures longevity,” says Uldis Grīva, Senior Forest Infrastructure Specialist in LVM Zemgale Region.

LVM constantly makes significant investments in the development of forest infrastructure. Forest roads ensure not only the movement of residents and forestry processes but also make a significant contribution to the implementation of forest fire protection measures. The list of daily forest road maintenance works, depending on the season and the need, includes such works as roadbed maintenance works, repair works, culvert works, cutting of shoots, winter maintenance works, and others.
