Looking forward to spring, JSC “Latvia's State Forests” (LVM) invites those interested to apply for the Open Forest Days events, which will be held in all LVM regions in April and May. During 12 different events, families and interested groups will have the opportunity to plant young forest stands and learn more about the importance of forest restoration.
“Together with experienced experts, the participants of the Open Forest Days will plant trees, thus raising awareness of the forest as Latvia's largest and most valuable renewable resource, which helps mitigate climate change. This year, LVM plans to plant more than 29 million young trees in the state forests. Each of the planted trees, in the process of photosynthesis, attracts carbon dioxide from the air and deposits carbon in the wood, thus releasing oxygen. Young and middle-aged stands grow faster, diligently attract carbon dioxide, and use it for growth,” says Edmunds Linde, Executive Director of LVM Forestry.
The LVM Open Forest Days events are offered free of charge. All the equipment necessary for planting will be provided by LVM, but the participants should provide their own transport to the venue and snacks to maintain energy, as well as clothing suitable for visiting the forest. Please apply for the event in a timely manner, as the number of places is limited.
The Forest Days is a tradition-rich series of events, which is organised with the aim of promoting public awareness of sustainable forest management.
On 24 and 25 May, the largest forest industry event in the Baltics, the Latvian Forest Days, will be held in Latvia’s State Forest Nature Park in Tērvete, in the Kurbad’s Land. During the event, everyone interested will have the opportunity to learn about the importance of forests in mitigating climate change, watch demonstrations of forestry equipment, and get answers to questions related to the forest industry, wood industry and nature.
The event is organized by JSC “Latvia's State Forests” in cooperation with the municipality of Dobele region, the association “Zaļa josta” and a number of forest industry organizations. Application for cooperation partners and schools is already open on the website www.latvijasmezadienas.lv
