To strengthen Latvia's energy independence, JSC “Latvia's State Forests” (LVM) has been purposefully increasing the volume of energy wood preparation in order to offer energy wood chips to both heat energy producers and the industrial sector. As the heating season of 2023/2024 is approaching, LVM starts selling energy wood chips.
LVM offers to buy 540 thousand bulk m3 of energy chips in the entire territory of Latvia, which is equivalent to 459 thousand megawatt-hours (MWh) of thermal energy with a delivery time from October this year to April 2024 according to a time schedule chosen by the buyer.
“The company has used the summer to stockpile wood chips and right now – just before the beginning of the heating season – has started selling energy wood chips for the new season. Therefore, we invite customers to take advantage of the opportunity to prepared for the heating season with a signed contract and guaranteed and stable deliveries from JSC “Latvia's State Forests”. We will be looking forward to cooperating with our long-term heat producers and companies that use wood chips for production processes, as well as the new boiler houses in the sales process,” says Līga Ozola-Šmite, Sales Executive Director at LVM Mežsaimniecība.
Those interested are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the sales offer and submit applications by 25 August, and financial proposals – by 4 September of this year.
Buyers who have not previously participated in the LVM sales process are invited to submit an application in the order specified in the sales offer to certify their compliance with the criteria applicable to buyers.
LVM produces energy wood chips from tree biomass – both from felling residues, such as branches, tops, trimmings, small trees, needles, and from the growth and small wood that remains in the forest after harvesting roadside and ditch growth and tending of young trees. Energy wood needs to dry naturally for 3 to 6 months after preparation in order to reach the optimum energy value at the time of burning and to be suitable for immediate use in the production of heat.
In 2022/2023, LVM achieved the historically highest production and sale volumes of energy wood chips, offering on the market around 800 thousand bulk cubic metres of a product suitable for energy extraction.
