and the Latvian Rally Championship took place on the territory of Latvia – from Tukums to Liepāja. During the rally, the total length of the closed road sections for all speed stages was 123.92 km, part of which was also the forest roads of JSC “Latvia's State Forests” (LVM). Already in April, the company started planning the placement of logs on the roadsides and their timely removal to ensure a constant environment and reduce the danger during the rally's speed stages.
“The conditions of the track in the speed stages had to be ensured continuously from 12 June, when the official test drives and recording of the track were started in separately agreed stages. Logging operations were adjusted so that any logging service provider could continue their work without affecting the rally and they could place the prepared products on the roadsides in a timely manner. The efficient cooperation between logging and logistics allowed the wood products to be delivered to customers in a timely manner, thus reducing the number of logs placed on the sides of speed stages,” says Jānis Mellums, Head of LVM Supply Planning.
For LVM's customers – round timber processors – not to feel a reduction in the delivered volume during the week of the test drives, in some places where the timber was still brought to the road to ensure customer deliveries, deliveries were made during the night so as not to delay the progress of the test drives. For the purpose of the rally, changes were made in the general traffic organization and the movement of LVM timber carriers on the roads of the speed stages was suspended on 17-18 June.
“It's a pleasure that we can get involved with our work and provide safe conditions for the rally to take place. We congratulate the rally winners – Mārtiņš Sesks and Renārs Francis,” said the LVM expert.
In the following days, the LVM forest infrastructure specialists will survey the LVM roads in nature and, if necessary, will organize immediate restoration of the roads.
