On 16 August, the Board of the Latvian Wood Industry Federation, the leading association of Latvian wood processors, participated in a joint working meeting with the newly appointed Board of Latvia's most important forest resource manager, JSC “Latvia's State Forests” (LVM), to discuss the further development of the forest sector within the framework of fair and nationally considered cooperation.
In its 22 years of operation, LVM has become a leader in sustainable forestry in the Baltic Sea region, ensuring efficient and sustainable forest land management and the availability of wood resources for the needs of the Latvian wood processing industry, providing for fair competition, openness, and mutual trust.
The Board of the Latvian Wood Industry Federation expects that the new management of LVM will continue to adhere to the company's previous principles, contributing to increasing the competitiveness of the Latvian wood supply chain. Fairness, openness, transparent actions, and mutual trust have historically played an important role in forging the success of the industry, but it is especially relevant now, when various local and global events introduce significant changes and affect every citizen and company of Latvia.
“The new Board of the company, upon implementing sustainable, efficient and socially responsible management of the company's strategic assets such as land, forest, subsoil and other resources will have challenging goals both in increasing forest productivity and in the field of carbon sequestration. It will also have to work on innovative development based on the latest scientific achievements, increasing the company's value, and promoting Latvia's competitiveness in global value chains,” says Indulis Kovisārs, President of the Latvian Wood Industry Federation.
“JSC “Latvia's State Forests” will continue the sustainable management of State forests in such a way as to provide maximum benefit to Latvian society, the environment and the economy of our country. From the company's point of view, we see the Latvian Wood Industry Federation as a strategic partner in the forest industry, which unites our largest and most important customers and service providers and ensures that the final products produced in the forest such as saw logs, veneer blocks, technological wood and other products are transformed into high-quality products with high added value and reach both Latvian and export markets. On the part of LVM, we will continue to ensure maximum stability in the sale of wood to create a safe and sustainable basis for the future development of the entire forest sector,” Pēters Putniņš, Chairman of the LVM Board, said during the meeting.
