JSC “Latvia’s State Forests” (LVM) reminds that as dry and sunny weather conditions continue, the risk of fire in forests will gradually increase. Although even intense rains can be observed in individual places, the Centre of Environment, Geology and Meteorology of Latvia has determined a high fire danger in forests in the eastern part of Latvia from 30 June to 7 July, so you should be especially careful and cautious. It is important to avoid any open flames in the forest or in its immediate vicinity. If you notice a forest fire, you should immediately report it to the State Fire and Rescue Service by calling 112.

It should be remembered that, according to the State Forest Service order, as of 2 May, a fire-hazardous period has been set in forests throughout the country, and everyone must comply with the fire safety regulations.

In forests and marshes, it is prohibited to:

  • Drop burning or smouldering matches, cigarette butts or other items;
  • Light bonfires outside specially designed places or leave them unattended;
  • Perform any other activities that may cause a fire.
  • Since the beginning of this year, 46 forest fires have been extinguished in the territory managed by JSC “Latvia's State Forests”, which affected 38 ha of forest territory.

    To avoid a fire accident in the forest, JSC “Latvia's State Forests” reminds its service providers to be especially cautious and encourages them:

  • To inform fellow citizens about high fire danger in the forest;
  • To use fire in the forest only in special cases, when it is very necessary and in places intended for this purpose;
  • To place equipment with heated engines in places where there are no easily flammable materials (moss, peat, dry ground cover);
  • To avoid creating an open flame in the forest, incl. dropping smouldering cigarette butts into the ground cover;
  • To park vehicles on forest roads in such a way that, if necessary, specialized forest fire extinguishing equipment can pass them.
  •
