With the onset of warmer weather, JSC “Latvia's State Forests” (LVM) is intensively starting daily maintenance of forest roads. One such type of work is dedusting the road surface. Its purpose is to prevent the surface from dusting in dry weather. During the performance of the work with a specialized equipment, an anti-dust reagent – calcium chloride (CaCl2) – is incorporated into the road surface.

“Currently, calcium chloride is most often used as a dedusting agent in Latvia. Due to the hygroscopic nature of the substance, it attracts moisture from the air. The minimum humidity required for dust fraction to be attracted must be at least 30%,” tells Jānis Buņķis, LVM Forest Infrastructure Planning Manager.

In Tērvete Forest District of the Zemgale region, dedusting works have been carried out on two forest roads – the Indrāni Route and the Gulbji Reservoir Road. On 27 and 28 May, the largest forest industry event – the “Latvian Forest Days” – will take place next to the Indrāni Route, and the dust removal works will improve the mobility of visitors. In turn, the dedusting of the pavement on the way to the Gulbji Reservoir Road and the adjacent nature park in the glamping area will allow tourists to enjoy recreation in nature even more comfortably.
