Families will have an Opportunity to Explore and Try out Forest Works as Part of the Latvian Forest Days

The largest forest information event in the Baltics – the Latvian Forest Days – which is to take place in Tērvete on 27 and 28 May invites families with children to get to know Latvian forestry in more than 80 educational activities. Friday will be dedicated to school students and classes, whereas on Saturday, 28 May, all day from 10:00 to 17:00, families are especially welcome to get acquainted with wood, which is such a valuable renewable natural resource, as well as to enjoy an extensive programme of cultural events on the festival stage. The entrance is free.

During the two days of the event, entrepreneurs will be introduced to the benefits of wood products and the widespread use of wood, displaying wooden and functional items – wooden bikes, garden furniture, floors, doors and even wooden houses. The nuances of practical work will be revealed by observing ground drilling, twig chipping, firewood preparation, tree felling, pruning and other demonstrations.

Forest education stands will provide an insight into educational opportunities and learning paths, as well as give an opportunity to “try your hand” in possible future jobs: sawing logs, discovering the world of cutting-edge chainsaws, becoming a forestry machinery harvester and forwarder operator.

Application for the school event on 27 May is open until 20 May; you will receive additional study and information materials. Groups of students will also receive a special gift presented by LVM – a free entrance card to the paid part of LVM Nature Park in Tērvete, which can also be used on the day of the event. For the application form for schools and additional information see www.latvijasmezadienas.lv

The closing ceremony of the campaign “Clean Latvia” organized jointly by LVM and the association “Zaļā josta” will take place on 27 May. The finals of the LVM Forest Game will also take place on the school day, selecting and honouring the winners.

The Latvian Forest Days will take place in the thematic part Kurbads World of LVM Nature Park in Tērvete, where from 10.00 to 17.00 both children and adults are kindly invited to take an active part in various exciting forest information stops. Knowledgeable forest experts will tell those interested about the entire production process – from a seed to a smart wooden house, as well as provide an insight into the education opportunities in the forest industry. In turn, Pigman, the patron of clean forests, together with other fairy-tale characters will offer a variety of fun games for all participants.

The Latvian Forest Days are organised by JSC “Latvia's State Forests” in cooperation with Dobele Municipality Council, the Latvian Forest Owners Association, the Latvian Wood Industry Federation and the Associations Zaļās mājas” and “Zaļā josta”.
