In 2021, a number of important infrastructure facilities were constructed using the mineral materials of JSC “Latvia's State Forests” (LVM). Aware of the scale of the Rail Baltica project and the need for mineral materials, LVM Zemes dzīles has started work to determine the quality of mineral materials in LVM quarries in accordance with the criteria set for the Rail Baltica project, as well as to prepare these quarries for mineral extraction and be ready to respond to the demand.
LVM plans to open five additional new extraction sites near the Rail Baltica route by 2024, thus providing mineral materials in 30 quarries located up to 60 km from the route.
"We see that cooperation with us in terms of purchasing mineral materials is a value for both entrepreneurs and society as a whole. The benefit of entrepreneurs is cost efficiency and product quality, which is ensured by a controlled production process and quality control of the delivered mineral materials at the LVM Zemes dzīles testing and research laboratory. The extraction of mineral materials in LVM's quarries takes place in accordance with laws and regulations, international production standards, as well as with responsibility to the environment and society, concluding the extraction site cycle with recultivation immediately after completion,” says Karīna Āboliņa-Zalpētere, Sales Manager at LVM Zemes dzīles.
JSC “Latvia's State Forests” manages more than 100 mineral extraction sites throughout the whole territory of Latvia. In 2021, more than 920 thousand m3 of mineral materials and their mixtures obtained from LVM quarries were used in the construction of important infrastructure facilities and in the production process of construction products. In 2021, EUR 348.6 thsd were paid to the State and local government budgets for the extracted mineral materials. In 2022, it is planned to open seven new mining sites and provide mixtures of mineral materials in 25 quarries throughout the territory of Latvia.
